April Opening UP!!

So very pleased that we can start opening up after this latest lockdown – although we are limited to Children’s Educational Activities in the main – and to this end we have a Children’s Art Workshop every Monday afternoon, with the Guides in every Tuesday. We are able to hold very small meetings also, and held our Trustees Meeting on 14th April. Things are a little better during May – as well as the regular bookings mentioned above, the Local and Police Commissioner Elections are on 6th May, an Eagle Society Meeting on 22nd May, an Adult Arts Workshop on 26th May, and we hope to host an Amnesty International 60th Anniversary Socially Distanced Film Show on 28th May – watch this space!

Hopefully a Happier New Year!

Hi everyone – we start the year with trepidation – sadly severely locked down until at least mid-February, but we have hope! The supportive ‘Whats-Appening in Ivinghoe Mutual Aid Group’ is with us still, using the Hub’s phone number 01296-661666 as a helpline – successful in running medicines from the Pharmacy around the village and down to Great Gap, the Group members also arranging for shopping for sheltering neighbours, dog walking and helping out as best we can! In the meanwhile – stay safe and healthy – we look forward to seeing your friendly faces just as soon as we can!

Happy Christmas to all!!

Ho folks – all Hub Trustees wish everyone as good a Christmas as you are able to have! We reflect on the year which started out so hopeful – Trustees Russ Eyre and Bob Corn up a ladder painting the new Vent Extract System which we had had installed into the Café’s Kitchen, then arranging for a new floor in the Main Hall with new floor finishing in the Hall and Café – then Covid hit!!! Virtually all Bookings dried up almost immediately from March 2020 – we hastily negotiated Grants (three by now!) to keep all afloat, and we continue to keep the ‘Back Room’ stuff going – keeping abreast with all Government Covid-19 updates, and installing the necessary hand-sanitisers, signs, etc – including the required NHS Tracking Code Signs! Also – reading meters, negotiating services maintenance contracts, emptying the refuse bins which hang on the Hub fences, a bit of gardening, paying bills and all of the stuff necessary to keep the Hub going! Carol (our Chair) set up the Whats-Appening in Ivinghoe Mutual Aid Group, using the Hub’s phone number as a helpline – successful in running medicines from the Pharmacy around the village and down to Great Gap, the Group members also arranging for shopping for sheltering neighbours, dog walking and helping out as best we can! After all of that – again, we wish everyone a Safe and Happy Christmas – and for a good, vaccine supported 2021!

October 2020 Calendar

Hi everyone – we do hope that you are keeping safe and enjoying whatever freedoms you can enjoy in these trying times! We slowly have started to open the Hub for Community Bookings, and the Guides, Kickboxing and an Arts Workshop are so far booked in for October – and we are showing the Simply Walks programme as it is based around the Hub, although it does not involve booking internal space. For the sake of keeping everyone as safe as possible, we are so far limiting our internal bookings to one per day, to allow cleaning between booking – we hope you understand, and will support this approach – you can of course continue to come along and enjoy a delicious coffee and a meal at CuriosiTEA Rooms during their opening hours, seven days a week!

Do remember that we work very closely with the Town Hall in joint booking ventures, and with the Parish Council in their making the Lawn available for Car-Parking if your event requires it – just make sure to book the Lawn through the Parish Council’s web-site at least a week in advance –

2020 Annual Chair’s Report and Financial Report

Hello everyone – as foreshadowed a couple of weeks ago, our 2020 Annual General Meeting has been cancelled due to the ramifications of the Covid-19 Pandemic – thus we are publishing our 2020 Annual Chair’s Report, and the 2020 Financial Report for all to see on this site. The 2020 Annual Chair’s Report can be seen at this link:

We welcome any discussion, comments or questions surrounding these reports – do feel able to email or telephone – or share a cup of coffee with any of our Trustees. Our email address is: ivinghoeoldschoolcommunityhub@btconnect.com – or our telephone is 01296-661666.

2020 AGM Cancellation

Hi everyone! It is with regret that this year’s Annual General Meeting has been cancelled – obviously due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, and associated restrictions. We do have to report that one of our Trustees – Sylvia Simmonds – has been suffering with a major health problem of late, and we do wish her well in coming to grips with all. Our Chair, Carol Tarrant, will be publishing her Annual Chair’s Report nonetheless, as will Treasurer/Secretary Bob Corn publish the Annual Financial Statement – both before end of September 2020 – any questions surrounding any matter to do with running our Community Hub, or any discussions or suggestions which folk may wish to put forward, please do feel free to contact the Trustees by email – ivinghoeoldschoolcommunityhub@btconnect.com – by telephone on 01296-661666, or simply come in to meet either one of us in a socially distanced manner; we will be very happy to discuss any concerns.

Welcome Back!

After six months of lock-down, we are really pleased to now be able to take bookings for Hall space – as previously, either for the Main Hall, for a smaller sub-divided part of the Main Hall, or for the IT Suite – although the bookings must strictly be on the basis of adhering to Government Guidelines in respect of Covid-19 restrictions for the time being, which we are sure that everyone will understand. Current guidance is now appended to our Booking Form, which by making a booking will be part of the Booking Conditions which are accepted by the Hirer or Event Organiser. Download the Booking Form by clicking here – http://www.ivinghoeoldschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Covid-19-Booking-Form-05-10-2020.pdf

We cannot yet publish a calendar of events for September, simply because at the time of writing we have no firm bookings and dates to insert into a calendar. You are no doubt aware that the on-site Café – CuriosiTea Rooms – have been open since 4th July, so do please continue to enjoy a cup of Tea or Coffee, and eat tasty food.

Do remember that we work very closely with the Town Hall in joint booking ventures, and with the Parish Council in their making the Lawn available for Car-Parking if your event requires it – just make sure to book the Lawn through the Parish Council’s web-site at least a week in advance –

COVID-19 HUB CLOSURE and HELP

Hi all – as we are all aware, Community Buildings like ours are necessarily temporarily closed due to the lock-down associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic – and it looks very much as if we are to remain closed for a good few weeks going forward. In the meanwhile our Chair of Trustees, Carol Tarrant, has established a ‘Mutual Aid’ WhatsApp group for the village of Ivinghoe. It is called ‘WhatsApp-ningin Ivinghoe’, and consists of 25 village volunteers around the village, who have all offered to keep an eye out for neighbours, particularly those who are shielding or are vulnerable in some way. Medicines and Food can be collected, and other help can be provided as required – Carol can be emailed on the Hub email address – ivinghoeoldschoolcommunityhub@btconnect.com – which is organised for her to access from her home. If you would like to be added to the ‘WhatsApp-ningin Ivinghoe’ WhatsApp group, please let Carol know, with your mobile phone number (which needs to have the WhatsApp app installed!) so that she can add you to the group.

Please keep safe, everyone – we will return to normal business of supporting our Community just as soon as advice from our Government allows, at all times keeping Health and Wellbeing paramount. We will keep updating this page as new information becomes available.
